Hon. Locke Craig,
Governor of N. Carolina,
Hot Springs, Ark.
Dear Governor:-
I notice in the papers that the Kinston people are kindly going after the board of trustees for the State School for the Feeble Minded. We who have heretofore been in the minority are fully convinced that there should be a change in the administration for the school, and are determined to keep faith with the pledges we made to the legislature in the extra session.
It appears that they want to gratify their malice by vilifying you, when no blame attaches to you whatever.
I think that we now have the institution in the hands of three good men who were appointed or elected as an executive committee to represent the board. I prepared the order of the board that transfered the institution to the executive committee, and I feel that I am due them no apology for what I did in the matter. Furthermore, every member of the board voted to make this transfer, including the Hardy men, and I see no reason why they should try to place the blame on you. I feel that we are all discharging our sworn duty the Kinston people not withstanding.
The executive committee is composed of Dr. A. A. Kent Chm. Mr. Charles Dewey of Goldsboro and Mr. J. D. Bushel of Raleigh. If we can get a good strong man for superintendent I will feel like we can go back to the next General Assembly and make a good showing and get what the institution needs. I hope you are improving very rapidly and that your recovery may be premenant. I, remain,
Yours very truly,
