To James West Esqr., Secretary to the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury,
Sir,
The Lords Commissioners for Trade and Plantations having lately received a Letter from Arthur Dobbs Esquire, Governor of His Majesty's Province of North Carolina, in which he represents the Expediency of surveying the several Counties in that Province as a Means of discovering the true Quantities of Land granted, and thereby improving His Majesty's Revenue of Quit-Rents, and proposes that the Expence of such Survey should be defrayed out of that Revenue; I am directed by their Lordships to send you the inclosed Extract <Bundle C.44.> of so much of Mr. Dobbs's Letter as relates to this point, and also an Extract of another part of the said Letter, where he proposes that he may have a Power of suspending the Receiver of the Quit-Rents for neglect of his Duty; and to desire you will lay them before the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury for their Lordship's Directions thereupon.
I am,
Sir,
Your most obedt. Servt.
