William Edward Rutledge was born in Yadkin County, North Carolina, on November 13, 1887. Rutledge was a publisher and newspaper editor in Yadkinville. He died there on April 2, 1966.

Norman W. Rutter was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on December 7, 1873. He remained a resident of Portsmouth throughout his life and worked as a ship joiner at the U.S. Navy Yard. He died February 20, 1920.
