Biographical Description

Edward Moseley was born in England in about 1682 and arrived in North Carolina by 1704. A surveyor and attorney, he settled in Chowan Precinct, North Carolina where he held several colonial offices. He was a member of the North Carolina Council from 1705 to 1707, 1709 to 1711, 1723 to 1724, and 1734 to 1749. He also served several terms in the colonial assembly, as the surveyor general in 1706, as the colonial treasurer from 1715 to 1735 and as chief justice of the General Court from 1744 to 1745. He died in North Carolina in July 1749.
