Biographical Description

Laurence Pettiford was a free person of color born in North Carolina in about 1766. A resident of Granville County, North Carolina at the time of the Revolution, he witnessed his sister Rachel marry Valentine Locus and later made a sworn affidavit attesting to that fact in his sister's widow's pension application. He later resided in Wake, Caswell, and Guilford Counties and died in 1838.
