Biographical Description

The Warraskoyack were an Algonquin-speaking tribe located near the Pagan River in Isle of Wight County, Virginia who were part of the Tsenacomoco, or the Powhatan paramount chiefdom. The first written record of the Warraskoyack tribe dates to 1607, when Jamestown colonist John Smith traded with them. By 1610 however, during the first Anglo-Powhatan War, the Warraskoyack nation's relationship with the Virginia had turned hostile and the English attack their town, burning many of the Warraskoyack's homes and fields. The few Warraskoyack that remained likely assimilated into other nearby tribes that were part of the Powhatan confederacy by the time of the second Anglo-Powhatan War in 1622.

Today no state or federally recognized tribe claims direct Warraskoyack ancestry.
