Elisabeth Margareta Daude was born in Bayern, Germany on September 22, 1756. A Palatine German immigrant, she along with her parents and siblings came to Pennsylvania in 1765, settling in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Elisabeth Margareta, or Margaret as she came to be called, married Peter Kinder in 1774 and the couple settled in Montgomery County, Virginia.

When Peter Kinder was drafted into the Montgomery County Regiment of the Virginia Militia in 1780, Margaret Kinder managed the couple's homestead and cared for their children. In March 1781 when Peter Kinder was wounded in the leg at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, Margaret and Philip Kinder, her brother-in-law, traveled via wagon to Salem, North Carolina to find him. Margaret stayed with Peter for a time and helped him recuperate. When Peter was healthy enough to travel, Margaret and Philip helped him get back to Virginia.

After her husband died in 1809, Margaret Kinder never remarried and likely lived with her adult children in Wythe County, Virginia, as she does not appear as the head of household on any censuses. In June 1845 she made an application for a widow's pension based on her husband's military service. Her claim did not see success before she died in Wythe County on October 23, 1845. Her son then tried to renew the claim after her death, but was unable to prove his father's marriage and military service to the U.S. Pension Office's satisfaction and the claim was consequently rejected.
