Hon. Locke Craig,
Raleigh, N.C.

Dear Sir:

We beg to acknowledge your kind favor of the 20th inst., relative to the preservation of the timber around Mout Mitchell.

Since our talk with you about a year ago, we have not been cutting near the Peak. In fact on the Cane river side we have not started to cut anything north of Stepp' Gap.

On the Toe River side we have cut the bulk of the saw timber for about two miles to the north of Mitchell Ridge, but we have left all the small timber standing for Park purposes. In fact I do not believe that the Park Commission contemplates coming down the mountain slope far enough to take in any territory where we have cut saw timber.

For your information we beg to advise that we are under contract to cut the pulpwood off the tract on the Toe River side owned by the Wilson Heirs (heirs of Big Tom Wilson). We had to agree to take their timber and pulpwood in order to get a right of way through them, and according to our agreement we should have taken the pulpwood off before this time, but we have been holding off on account of the Park project, and on account of various delays in getting out the saw timber.

The Wilson Tract comprises about 100 acres, and we believe it would be well for your Commission to arrange with the Wilson Heirs to let the pulpwood stand, and to have them to instruct us not to cut same.

With kindest regards, we are

Yours very truly,
