Mathew Midgett was shipwright who immigrated to North Carolina from Maryland in about 1707. He likely fought hostile American Indians alongside a group of Yeopim warriors including John Durant at some point during the Tuscarora War. Midgett later was a resident of Currituck Precinct, where he died in December 1734.
