Biographical Description

Mathew Winn was a resident of Pasquotank Precinct, North Carolina. In 1703 he sued his neighbor, John Jennings, for defamation when Jennings called Winn a rogue and a hog stealer. Winn proved in court that he had not stolen a pig, but actually had helped return a lost pig to an American Indian man. Jennings was found guilty of defamation. Winn died sometime after 1719.
