Biographical Description

Joseph Chew was a colonial resident of Chowan Precinct, North Carolina by 1680. Chew was involved with a plantation called Scuppernong on Salmon Creek, which had formerly belonged to North Carolina Governor Seth Sothel. After Sothell's death, the plantation eventually passed to William Duckenfield. Chew died sometime after December 1697.
