Biographical Description

Patrick McGowan was born in County Sligo, Ireland on March 17, 1811. McGowan was a stonecutter who moved to Raleigh in 1831. In addition to working on the construction of the capitol building in the 1830s, McGowan also served as Keeper of the Capitol and Door-keeper of the Senate. He died in Raleigh on February 25, 1885.
