Robert Findlater was born in Aberdeen, Scotland around 1808. A longtime resident of Raleigh, Findlater was a businessman and stonecutter who worked on the construction of the state capitol in the 1830s. He was discovered deceased at his home outside Raleigh on July 9, 1856.
