Biographical Description

John Montgomery was the longtime attorney general of North Carolina. Although first appointed in 1723, the first extant record indicating his service in that role dates to 1730. Montgomery remained in his post until 1741, when he became the colony's chief justice and also represented Tyrrell County in the North Carolina Colonial Assembly from 1738 to 1741. He died in Chowan County in about May 1744.
