John Y. Bryant was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 23, 1808. A resident of Washington, D.C., he worked as a clerk in the U.S. General Land Office in the 1840s and later became an agent who would process claims against the U.S. government, including pensions. He died in Baltimore, Maryland on June 22, 1879.
