Biographical Description
Augustus Summerfield Merrimon was an attorney, U.S. senator, and chief justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court. Merrimon was born in Transylvania County, North Carolina, on September 15th, 1830. He served in the U.S. Senate from 1873-1879. He died in Raleigh (Wake County), North Carolina, on November 14th, 1892.
