Micajah Lewis was born in Albemarle County, Virginia in about 1755. Originally a captain in the North Carolina Continental Line, he became a major in the Surry and Wilkes County Regiments of the North Carolina Militia in 1779. He died in Alamance County, North Carolina after mistaking enemy troops for his own reinforcements on February 26, 1781.
