Jane Dickinson Lippitt (née Green) was born in Wilmington, North Carolina in August 1833. The the daughter of a wealthy plantation owner and railroad official, she attended many gatherings in and around Wilmington which the Cotten family and other members of their social circle attended. She married Joseph J. Lippitt in 1857 and died in Wilmington on May 10, 1901.
