Tilman Dixon was born in Caswell County, North Carolina on June 26, 1750. He served as a captain in the 1st North Carolina Regiment of the Continental Line, later attaining the rank of major and led men at several battles including the Battle of Germantown and the Battle of Monmouth. After the war he moved to Smith County, Tennessee, where he died on April 2, 1816.
