Biographical Description

Alfred Williams was born in Franklin County, North Carolina on June 10, 1805. A resident of Raleigh, he served as the clerk of the Wake County Superior Court from 1835 to 1841. He later established a dry goods company, and after the Civil War he operated a book publishing house in downtown Raleigh. He died in Raleigh on January 9, 1896.
