Edward Fitzgerald Pescud was born in Baltimore, Maryland on July 20, 1855. Pescud moved to Raleigh with his family around 1868 where he owned and operated a bookstore from around 1905 until his retirement in 1929. In 1914, he was elected treasurer of the Carolina Prisoners' Aid Society. He died in Raleigh on January 23, 1931.
