Biographical Description

William Durrance (c1738-1808) was a resident of Tyrrell County. After initially refusing to take an oath of secrecy when Daniel Leggett first proposed it, Durrance later did take the oath and become a member of the Gourd Patch Conspiracy. When the plot was discovered, Durrance submitted a deposition stating that the one oath was his only involvement in the conspiracy.
