Biographical Description

John Smith was a resident of Dobbs County, North Carolina. He enlisted in the North Carolina Militia during the War of Regulation and died during the Battle of Alamance on 16 May 1771. Following his death, his wife Faithy Smith petitioned the North Carolina Colonial Assembly requesting a widow's pension to support herself and the couple's infant child. She was awarded one hundred pounds for the purchase of an enslaved individual for her personal use.
