Biographical Description

James Dixon Murphy was born in Duplin County, North Carolina on July 24, 1858. Murphy was an attorney and Democratic politician in Asheville who served as legislator (1905) and judge of the superior court (elected 1905). In June 1900, he presided over the founding meeting of the Asheville White Supremacy Club. Murphy died in Asheville on July 13, 1931.
