Billy Dunston was born around 1809. Dunston was a Black man who worked as a laborer during the construction of the state capitol in Raleigh during the 1830s. He seems to have been a longtime resident of Wake County and was later engaged in the trade of well digging. Dunston died in a worksite accident near Rolesville on June 19, 1869.
