Wade Cothran Smith was born in Georgia on June 1, 1869. Smith was a minister who served as editor of a monthly Presbyterian magazine called The Missionary Survey, published out of Richmond, Virginia. He seemed to split his time between Richmond and the mountains of Western North Carolina. Smith died in Weaverville (Buncombe County) on May 16, 1960.
