Claudius "Claud" Young Miller was born in Davie County, North Carolina, on December 22, 1858. Miller had moved to Wilkesboro (Wilkes County) by 1900, where for several decades he owned a marble and stone cutting business. He later was a business partner with his son, Claudius Herbert, who owned a veneer factory in Morganton (Burke County). Miller died at his daughter’s house in Lovelady (Caldwell County) on March 27, 1935.
