Charles Peyton Burchette was born in Wilkes County, North Carolina, on April 10, 1873. It appears Burchette lived in North Wilkesboro only for a couple years while working an office job at C. C. Smoot & Sons, a local tannery. By 1917, he settled permanently in Winston-Salem, where he worked as a clerk and accountant at R. J. Reynolds Tobacco until his retirement in 1946. Burchette was also the grand master of the North Carolina Odd Fellows. He died in Winston-Salem (Forsyth County) on August 19, 1962.
