McVicker Monroe Coleman was born in Gibsland, Louisiana, on July 15, 1896. Coleman served with the 164th Depot Brigade and the 806th Pioneer Infantry during World War I. He saw overseas service from September 8, 1918 to July 3, 1919 and was honorably discharged on July 9, 1919 with the rank of corporal. A graduate of Shaw University, Coleman was a principal of Homer High School in Shreveport. In 1977, he was recognized by Howard University for his "distinguished civil and educational service." He died in 1982.
