PROPOSED LETTER OF INVITATION TO THE GOVERNORS.
-o-
You are no doubt familiar with the work so far done by the Forestry Commission that is expending the appropriation of $2,000,000 annually provided by the Weekes Bill in Forest and Stream conservation.
I am exceedingly anxious that thie Commission in the further prosecution of its work should also have prominently in its mind the idea of making the Southern Appalachians available for health and pleasure to the population of those Southern States which are now making this mountain section more and more each year their playground and health resort.
For the purpose of enlisting your co-operation in this matter and with a view to formulating definite plans for carrying out this thought, I write to urge that you attend a conference of the Southern Governors in Asheville on October 24th as my guest at the Grove Park Inn.
It will also be a very great pleasure for Mrs Craig and myself to entertain your good wife if she will honor the occasion by her presence.
The Conservation of the natural resources of this great region I am sure has your entire approval, and I feel that if to conservation can be added the opening up of this section to the population of the South as a health and pleasure resort nothing to be desired will be left undone in the expenditure of this money.
I most earnestly urge your attendance upon this meeting. A motor trip to Pisgah has been arranged. The mountains will be robed in their most gorgeous attire, and I am sure you will have a most delightful time.
Trusting that I may have an immediate reply of acceptance, I am,
Very sincerely yours,
[unsigned]
