Mount Holly, N.C. August 12, 1916.
Hon. Locke Craig,
Raleigh, N.C.
My dear Governor:-
I have noticed in the Charlotte Observer today the appointment of parties in different Counties as a local relief Committee to act in conjunction with the General Relief Committee in disbursing funds to the sufferers from the recent floods, and I note that you have not appointed anyone to represent Gaston County. Inasmuch as this County suffered greatly from the effects of the floods I think it would be well to appoint some one from this County, and I suggest Mr. R. K. Davenport of Mount Holly as a suitable man for this place. He is a member of the Board of County Commissioners and lives in the part of the County bordering on the Catawba River, and is a man of good judgment and discretion.
With kind regards, I am,
Yours very truly,
