Mr. Hugh MacRae,
Wilmington, N.C.
My dear Mr. MacRae:-
Your letter received, and I shall be more than pleased to appoint a committee of three to represent the State’s interest and confer with the Reclamation Service, in regard to lands for soldier settlements in North Carolina. I will be glad to appoint Mr. Herbert Smith and Mr. Henry Faison on the Committee, and without there is some objection in your own mind, I think that by all means you should be a member of this Committee. I am going to Washington this morning and will see Secretary Lane while I am there.
Very truly yours,
[unsigned]
