Declaration

In order to obtain the benefit of the 3rd. section of the act of Congress of 4th July 1836.

On this the 9th. day of November 1836 personally appeared in open court before John Battzell, M[illegible] [illegible]Charles C. Gatewood judicially sitting & forming ^a majority of the judges of the^ the County Commissioners Court in & for said County & state Rosannah Murry a resident of Union County & State of Illinois aged eighty one years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provisions made by the act of Congress passed July 4th. 1836 That she is the widdow of John B. Murry who was a first sergeant, in, the North Carolina State troops during the Revolutionary war, That he enlisted under Col. Middleton but does not reccallect the number of the Reg't which was commanded by Genl Sumpter, That he enlisted Burk County & state of North Carolina for the Term of ten months, about, the 1st. of May 1781. and from the place of the said Last mentioned place of enlistment he marched to South Carolina, That he was in a skirmish at Orangeburge in South Carrolina, that he was discharged honorably from the said service ^on the 1st. day of February 1782^ and had a discharge shewing that fact, during his lifetime which was put into the hands of Thomas Giles his administrator, who has since died and the discharge has been lost or mislaid so that it cannot now be found. about the 1st day of February 1782. That her said husband was on several tours of service against the Indians, previous to her marriage with him as he informed her, amounting to six months in all same time in the year 1773, but not seeing him in service during his said service against the indians she cannot state under what officers he then served under, that during his service after the indians he scoured the mountans of North Carolina, about Buncum County, that being then, a frontier, part of the country.

She further declares that she was married to the said John Murry on the [intentionally blank] day of July 1774 That her husband the aforesaid John Murry died on the 31st day of January 1827, & that she has remained a widow ever since that period as will more fully appear by reference to the proof heretofore annexed,
