Hon. Locke Craig,
Governor of North Carolina,
Raleigh, N.C.
Dear Sir:
The preservation of a Park for our people on the pinnacle of Mitchell and your effort to crown its dome with a fit monument to Elisha Mitchell, excite my fancy and stimulate my pride. Please enter my name for the sum of $100.00 in this behalf.
Now aloof and remote, this lofty spot will some day be the playground of thousands of people. Electric cars will thread the valleys and coves and mountain sides, and summer homes will dot the landscape. The traveler will make a day's journey by coach and rail and boat from Transylvania to Yancey through the Saphire country, by Asheville, over Pisgah, the Grandfather and Mt. Mitchell. Nor will the Trossacks have anything on us. Hasten the day.
With much respect,
Yours very truly,
