SOUTHERN GOOD ROADS
LEXINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA
July seventeenth,
Nineteen-Thirteen.
Governor Locke Craig,
Raleigh, N.C.
Dear Governor Craig:
I am in receipt of copy of letter you wrote Superintendent Mann of the 16th., and in reply will say that I think it would probably be unwise for the State Prison to furnish tools and camp for the convicts on the Hickory Nut Gap road. I think it is better for the cause that this part of the expense be borne by the local people. I so wrote to Dr. Pratt yesterday before I received your letter this morning.
Very truly yours,
HBV-H.
The High Point Motor Co. have offered to convey us over the Central Highway [tour?] at the rate of 10¢ per mile which would be $100 for the trip. How much of this expense could you charge up to your expenses? Let me hear from you. I wrote Dr Pratt & asked him the same question.
Yours &c
H B Varner.
